All anyone can talk about online is speculating what the heck happened between The White Lotus stars Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins. They unfollowed each other almost instantly after the season finale aired, except eagle-eyed fans noticed Wood still follows Goggins’ one account: Walton Goggins Goggle Glasses. And now, if fans go to their social media, you can see even more has been added to the fire; all because of a controversial Saturday Night Live skit. (Hint: Goggins loved it, but Wood wasn’t a big fan at all. And fans think he’s being really shady about it.)
In case you missed it, on April 12, SNL made a skit called “The White Potus,” which was a play on The White Lotus show and the Trump presidency.
During the skit, Jon Hamm played Goggins’ White Lotus character Rick and Sarah Sherman played Wood’s beloved character, Chelsea. And during their time on screen, they made fun of Wood’s iconic smile buy putting Sherman with a set of very pronounced fake teeth.
Now, the comments were flooded with fans saying they could avoid making fun of Wood’s teeth. “Brilliant sketch, except they really didn’t have to make fun of Aimee Lou Wood, it’s just being horrid to a lovely actress for no reason,” and “you could have done it without mocking Amy, my luvs❤️.”
However, Goggins was a fan of the skit. Goggins even commented on their video, saying, “Hahahahahhahaha Amazzzingggg.” Fans were instantly angered by that, replying back to him, saying, “disappointing response given its upset your co-star,” “have your girls back!” and “guess you really are feuding with Aimee 🙄 she’s said it was mean and your saying it’s amazing!”
However, he doubled down and shared it to his Instagram stories, saying “SMASHING. Jon… I knew I was miscast.”
But Wood was not a fan at all, consistently making Instagram story posts about her feelings and how “thousands” of her fans agreed with her stance.
“I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny,” Wood wrote in a series of Instagram Stories from April 13 via EW. “Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about — but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
SNL did apologize to Wood soon after her Instagram story posts, but this has fans losing it for two reasons. For one thing, it has X users speculating one of them blocked the other on Instagram. One X user even wrote, “Walton Goggins posting that the SNL skit is smashing after Aimee Lou Wood just ranted about it but he wouldn’t know because he’s blocked her.”
Now, there’s no proof to assume either has blocked the other, but the starkly different perspectives comes as a shock since they were supposedly so close, and had each other’s backs before this.
In a March interview with the Telegraph, Goggins said he knew right away Wood would be “a very special person in my life” and called her, “on some levels, a soulmate.”
As for Wood, she told The Times in April 2025 that the pair formed a bond that was like their characters. “There was a lot of personal mirroring going on [with Walton],” she said. “We’ve not had the same lives as them, but everyone’s essence is pretty similar to their character.”
