Police probe bus driver for reckless driving, obscene gesture

KULAI: Police are investigating a case where a bus driver reportedly drove recklessly on the emergency lane and made an obscene hand gesture after being honked at by another motorist.

A viral video of the incident shows the bus speeding on the emergency lane before suddenly cutting into the right lane.

The motorist who captured the footage honked at the bus driver, prompting the latter to respond with a rude hand gesture.

Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said an investigation was launched after police received a report about the viral video at 3.42pm yesterday.

However, he said neither the video owner nor the bus driver has come forward or filed a report.

He said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Kulai district police headquarters received the report regarding the video.

“The incident is believed to have occurred at Km35.5 of the North-South Expressway heading north,” he said last night.

Tan called on the bus driver, the person who recorded the video and witnesses with information to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Firdaus Mustaffa at 011-2608 1008 or visit the Kulai district police headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
