Axed McDonald’s menu item ‘returns’ to UK as eagle-eyed shoppers spot dupe in bargain shop
AN AXED McDonald’s menu item has “returned” to the UK as eagle-eyed shoppers spot a dupe in a bargain shop.
Customers could not believe their luck after spotting a dupe for Cheesey Garlic Bites at The Company Shop, a surplus food and goods distributor.

The savvy shopper stumbled across a 1kg bag of a product that looked almost identical to the Maccie’s side, and it cost just £5.
The discovery comes months after the home of the Golden Arches removed the side from its menus, to make way for a host of new items.
McDonald’s made the snack from mozzarella, flavouring it with garlic and chives in a ciabatta-style breadcrumb coating.
Alongside this, the shopper also stumbled across an almost identical-looking bag of Maccie’s Nuggets and a 2.4kg bag of fries, which cost £2.50.
The deal was shared on the UKNewestFood Instagram page, with shoppers quickly chiming in to praise the find.
One person said: “These chicken nuggets and chips taste exactly the same as McDonald’s. I have bought them myself several times now.”
While another person said: “I’m defo paying this place a visit.”
The Company Shop sells products from retailers like M&S and Asda for as much as 60% off the retail price but you need a membership to shop in one of its stores.
To qualify for a free membership card, you need to have a job in the care services (such as working for the NHS), be a member of the police or fire service, or work for a charity.
You can also get a membership card if you are on means tested benefits or claiming the state pension.
It’s not the first time shoppers have spotted products that look like Maccies goods in store.
Customers were convinced the retailer was selling the pork filling of McDonald’s McRib back in March.
Maccies briefly brought the option back in October last year, selling McRib for £4.49 for single burger, and £6.19 as part of a medium extra value meal.
Other shoppers have claimed to find £5 bags of 20 its iconic apple pies and also spotted camembert cheese bites.
You can find your nearest Company Shop by visiting companyshopgroup.co.uk/our-stores/company-shop/store-locations.
WHAT OTHER SHOPS DO YOU NEED A MEMBERSHIP FOR?

How to save cash on your food shop
Money saving experts at HSBC UK have revealed their top tips to saving cash on your food shop.
1. Set a budget
Creating a budget will help to stretch your budget. Start by working out how much you spent on food over the last three months, then each month you get paid, set aside a certain amount for food.
2. Plan your meals
Make a list of your main meals for the coming week, including the ingredients you need, and stick to it. Don’t get drawn into offers for things that you don’t need. If you already have some food leftover from the week before, try to see what you can do with that first.
3. Think about when and where you shop
It’s best to shop on a full stomach so you don’t get tempted. Shopping less often can help you to think about what you buy and it may help you to stick to your budget.
4. Go online
Shopping online is a good and easy way to manage your budget. It can also help to track expenses, whilst also preventing impulse buys.

A CORONATION Street character has disappeared without a trace in an on-screen mystery – did you spot it?
Corries Cassie Plummer and Steve McDonald had been growing closer for months, after striking up a surprising friendship last year.

However all that changed in recent episodes when Cassie was caught out for spiking Ken Barlow’s drinks and using his credit card to steal from him.
The upsetting news left Cassie as public enemy number one on the cobbles.
Even her son, Tyrone threw her out on the streets and dastardly Tracey tried to entice her into using drugs again.
But she was brought back from the brink when her loyal mum Evelyn returned to defend her.
The controversial character was then delighted when she realised that she hadn’t ruined her romantic chances with Steve after all.
In a recent episode, Steve had paid Cassie a visit to apologise for his behaviour after their fling at the Metcalfe’s house.
But when Steve asked to see her again she turned him down.
She explained how Evelyn had told her that ‘you teach people what’s acceptable by what you accept’ and that by taking Steve back she would be enabling his behaviour.
When the pair later ran into each other in the Rovers, Cassie was accompanied by Evelyn and Freddie the dog.
And Steve was sitting at a booth with his daughter but he couldn’t keep his eyes from straying towards Cassie who was seen cuddling Freddie.
Evelyn who was ordering drinks at the bar, rushed over to Steve’s table and said: “Just don’t look at her, alright. Just don’t.”
And Cassie jumped up and interrupted her – but the dog she was cuddling had vanished and instead Cassie was holding a handbag.
Fans took to social media to share the hilarious blunder.
“How did the dog turn into a handbag?” asked one laughing fan.
Corrie's most famous villains

- Richard Hillman (Brian Capron) – arguably the most famous villain in soap history. The character has multiple killings to his name. Richard left his former business partner Duggie Ferguson (John Bowe) to die before he murdered his ex-wife Patricia (Annabelle Apsion) who threatened to expose his dodgy dealings. He attempted to kill his mother-in-law Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) by setting her house on fire. He later killed her co-worker Maxine Peacock (Tracy Shaw) after she caught him in the act of attempting to strike Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire) with a crowbar. Eventually he confessed his crimes to Gail (Helen Worth) before driving the Platt family into the canal. They all survived, but Richard drowned.
- Mad Maya (Sasha Behar) – She may not have the most kills to her name, but no true Corrie fan will be able to forget ‘Mad Maya’s’ stint. Maya Sharma first started out as an innocent lawyer. However her true nature was revealed when she kidnapped Tyronne’s () dog and threatened to kill Dev Alahan () unless he proposed. Things soon turn nasty when Sunita () received the news that she has a brain tumour. The pair rekindle their romance and they end up getting married. However, Maya ruined their big day by reporting Sunita to the police for bigamy. Not done there, she plans to kill them both as she sets fire to all of Dev’s shop empire and trapping them both upstairs after she set fire to the corner shop with the gas and stove on. When they are miraculously rescued, she attempts to run them over.
- Pat Pheelan (Connor McIntyre) – Pat was introduced as an acquaintance of Owen Armstrong (Ian Puleston-Davies), before embarking on a revenge plot. He creates a fraudulent property scheme which caused the death of Michael Rodwell (Les Dennis). He kidnapped Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth) and Vinny Ashford (Ian Kelsey). This was before he framed his arch-nemesis Anna Windass for GBH after he pushed Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) off a ladder. He then murdered both Any as well as Luke Britton (Dean Fagan). He eventually met a gruesome end when he held most of the residents of the street hostage in the Bistro. He was stabbed by Anna Windass after he shot Michelle (Kym Marsh).
- Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) – Geoff started off as the innocent father to Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) and he was a local Weatherfield celebrity owing to his radio show and his ‘The Great Magnifico’ magic act. He later embarked on a romantic relationship and married with Yasmeen (Shelley King). However, he had a nasty streak as he controlled her in every way. He made sure she was reliant on him for everything including financially, he constantly bullied and belittled her, locked her in the magician’s box despite the fact she was claustrophobic, and he even forced her to eat her own pet chicken. Later she snapped and stabbed him in the neck. This was before she was arrested for attempted murder. However, his nearest and dearest soon discovered his true nature and they turned against him. He tried to sabotage the trial by threatening his ex-wife, but she stood up to him in an epic court showdown. After Yasmeen was released, Geoff died shortly after when he set fire to their home and fell off the roof.
- Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) – Kirsty was first seen on Corrie on a night out when Tommy Duckworth (Chris Fountain) paid her to flirt with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall). Later she makes her interest very clear and they end up together. After she gets sacked from her job as a policewoman, Tyrone gets her a job at Underworld factory as a packer. She is utterly horrified and she lashed out at Tyrone with a ladle. Kirsty apologised and Tyrone pretended to all his friends the injuries were accidental. However, this pattern continued. Over several incidents she forced him up against a door, smashed household plates and pictures, bruised him after beating him with a vacuum cleaner, throws a candlestick at his head and she locks him inside the house. However, one time she tried to hit him but she lost her balance and fell down the stairs. She lies to the police and tells them that it was Tyrone who was beating her. Tyrone was put in prison after he broke bail conditions when he went on the run with his daughter. During the period of the trial, she struggles to look after baby Ruby. She throws a cup at Julie (Katy Cavanagh) before exposing her own behaviour by slapping her. Kirst then stormed into the courtroom and confessed that she was the monster, not Tyrone.
“This would have been a TV Burp classic” said another, referring to Harry Hill’s TV show.
“How do they mess up that bad?” added a third viewer.
While another explained: “Sounds like they added a dog noise & paw sounds on the floor to say it walked off !!!”
During the scene, you can if you listen carefully, hear a dog crying but to be honest it looks like it just disappeared.
Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie, recently revealed that she would love for her character to end up with Steve on a long-term basis.
She said: “There’s so much fun in the scenes with them. Cassie could have been doing some evil stuff and thinking terrible things, but the minute he comes she turns into a giggly teenager.
“He just strips all of this away from her and it’s really very genuine.
“They just can’t help themselves. It’s literally forbidden fruit. He should not be going near Cassie.
“No one’s talking to Cassie. She’s a pariah, persona non grata on the cobbles, and suddenly he can’t help himself, he literally can’t.
“It’s lust, but with genuine fondness and love as well.”

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
