A Malaysian netizen was left stunned after ordering two iced barley drinks at a local kopitiam and being charged RM10, prompting him to jokingly ask if the drink could grant immortality.
The complaint was posted anonymously on the popular Facebook page “沙巴大大嘴巴” yesterday.
A loyal customer
The netizen claimed he had been a loyal customer of the kopitiam, located near a 7-Eleven in Taman Kingfisher, for over a decade.
However, it wasn’t until a recent visit with just one friend that he noticed the unusually high price of the drinks.
“Usually I come with a big group, so I never noticed anything wrong,” he wrote.
But this time, we only ordered two iced barley drinks, and I was shocked not once, but five times when I saw the bill.”

He added sarcastically, “Is our currency dropping to Indonesian Rupiah levels, or am I just out of touch with reality? Does this barley drink give you eternal life?”
Refrained from naming the restaurant
Fearing legal consequences, the user refrained from naming the establishment.
I won’t say which kopitiam it is — I can’t afford to receive an A4 paper,” he wrote, referring to a legal letter.
“I just know I won’t be going there again.” He added.
Netizens’ reaction
The post quickly went viral, with many netizens voicing support and making light-hearted jabs at the situation.
“Is it possible that the barley is imported from Italy?”

“This must be some kind of immortal elixir—drink it and you’ll live forever. No wonder the netizens are toasting him, but I’m afraid if too many people drink it and become immortal, the Earth might explode.”

“Sometimes Chinese shops really overcharge for drinks. A mamak stall only sells limau ais for RM2, but the Chinese shop next door sells it for RM4.”
