KUALA LUMPUR: MIC vice-president Datuk T. Murugiah sustained injuries to the neck, body and hands today in a near-miss involving two vehicles at the North-South Highway near Bangi, yesterday.
In the 8.30pm incident, Murugiah, who is a former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, was on his way home after officiating the MIC Bakri division’s annual general assembly in Johor.
A statement issued by his office today said the incident occurred when Murugiah’s personal driver, who was behind the wheel, swerved to avoid another vehicle which had stopped suddenly due to mechanical problems.
“The evasive action led the car to spin several times before his driver managed to regain control of the vehicle,” the statement read.
Murugiah went home after the incident. However, after suffering persistent neck pain, he sought treatment at a private hospital.
“Checks later showed that he sustained a neck fracture. Doctors have advised him to rest and reduce movement in the affected area. The fracture is expected to heal in due course,” read the statement.
Murugiah also thanked his family, friends and MIC members who had expressed concern for his well-being. — BERNAMA
