World Car of the Year Award winners revealed as £33k EV with massive range takes home top gong

THE brilliant Kia EV3 was crowned World Car of the Year last night – repeating EV9’s triumph 12 months ago.
Deja two.

The £33k electric crossover, with its 375-mile range and Tardis-like interior, landed the big prize ahead of the BMW X3 and Hyundai Inster.

The World Car Award Winners

Kia UK boss Paul Philpott said “This is fantastic recognition for our latest EV and for Kia, especially as we entered the 2025 World Car Awards as reigning champions from 2024.

“The EV3 has already proven to be very popular with customers and has received the highest praise from media and the UK’s Car of the Year jury.”

He’s not wrong there.

EV3 is Kia’s fast-selling EV of all time, finding more homes in five months than Soul EV did across its lifetime.

It is also Britain’s No1 seller in the retail market – that’s people like you and me putting our own cash on the table.

I’ve seen deals from £147 a month if trading a four-year-old XCeed.
Kia will start selling electric vans next.

Other World Car awards dished out at the New York Auto Show included the Volkswagen ID Buzz for best design and Volvo EX90 for best luxury.

BYD’s Dolphin Surf was named best urban car and Porsche’s 911 Carrera GTS took home the World Performance trophy.

No surprise there.

No surprise that Kia doubled up either.

WHY I'M NAGGING KIA

AMERICA likes fat SUVs.

We like small cars that go round corners.

So I’m not sure why Kia launched this tasty little hatchback at the New York Auto Show.

It’s called K4.

It’s petrol.

I keep nagging Kia to bring it here to replace the aging Ceed.

Then we’d have K4 and the battery-powered EV4 that’s coming soon.

Sorted.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Moment cops snare ‘Rolex Ripper’ gang after brazen watch thieves try to rob pair…only to find they’re undercover police

THIS is the dramatic moment a brazen “Rolex Ripper” gang are tackled to the ground by undercover cops after an embarrassing failed robbery.

Footage caught thief Yakob Harket, 21, trying to steal an expensive watch from a couple in Mayfair – but he failed to realise they were actually undercover police.

Two other men suspected of being Harket’s associates were also detained as they were stood just across the road from the robbery[/caption]

Harket was swiftly chased down the street by two more incoming cops who watched his every move.

More officers then rushed in on bikes as they discovered another three suspected accomplices lingering nearby.

Two of the men were sensationally stood just feet away from where the robbery took place walking up the road in Berkeley Square.

They were caught watching the police chase after Harket before two more plain clothed officers ran into them and dumped them on the floor.

The pair Mohammed Naas, 34, and Adel Mohamdi, 31, were arrested on the ground.

A fourth suspected thief in Yanis Amri, 37, was also detained.

The men have all been accused of being a part of a “Rolex ripper” gang who target wealthy people and steal their jewellery.

Police had been following the men for some time with remarkable CCTV video showing their perfectly executed undercover mission.

Footage shows Harket following a pair of police officers who were posing as a wealthy couple.

The duo had bags of shopping, were wearing posh clothes and had expensive replica jewellery on to bait out the gang.

Lead prosecutor Henry Laidlaw told a court that the male officer was wearing a £40,000 Rolex Sky Dealer watch at the time.

The woman had a replica Patek Philippe Rose Gold watch – with the real version having a value of approximately £70,000.

Jurors were shown several clips of the officers walking from Berkeley Square to Hays Mews on the evening of October 10, last year.

One of these showed Naas, Amri and Mohamdi following the couple as prosecutors claimed they were relaying information to Harket.

A separate video captured the moment of the attempted robbery.

Harket quickened his pace as he reached forward to grab the woman’s wrist.

Laidlaw said: “He ripped the Patek Philippe watch off her wrist but dropped it, so it was recovered.”

Moments later, a large number of plain clothes officers – including the undercover couple – sprang into action and tackled the thief as he tried to run away.

Harket managed to flee for a brief few minutes before he was eventually captured and arrested along with Amri.

Mohamadi and Naas were arrested right next to the offence, as seen in the video.

Harket admitted robbery at Southwark Crown Court as Naas was later convicted of the same crime by a jury after a three day trial.

Naas denied having any knowledge of the robbery operation.

He told police he met Mohamdi for a coffee that afternoon as the pair ended up in Shepherd’s Market.

Laidlaw told a jury he did know who Harket was but that they had never had a conversation.

But the prosecutors found in their case that the pair knew each other well and had a lot of communication in the months leading up to the robbery.

Mr Laidlaw added: “Phones were downloaded and a number of internet searches had been made by Naas on 9 October for Richard Mille watches.

“It is the prosecution’s case that Naas was an essential cog in a machine and played a knowing and willing part in the robbery.”

Naas appeared in court, aided by an Arabic interpreter, as he was was convicted of robbery.

Amri and Mohamdi were also convicted in their absence after they absconded.

Arrest warrants were issued for the pair’s detention.

Sentencing was adjourned until June 2.

Mayfair now has the highest rate for watch robberies across the whole of Europe.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Tackling violent crime is one of the Met’s priorities and we are determined to reduce the number of robberies.

“Uniform and plain clothes officers proactively patrol robbery hotspots to identify offences taking place, but more importantly to help prevent and deter offenders from committing robberies in the first place.”

‘He needs to concentrate on his own game’ – Fans slam Bellingham for what he did to Saka before penalty miss

FANS slammed Jude Bellingham for his gamesmanship before Bukayo Saka’s penalty miss.

The Arsenal star, 23, was in the thick of the action at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Saka’s Panenka penalty was saved by Thibaut Courtois[/caption]

He scored the crucial first goal, chipping beautifully over Thibaut Courtois to put Arsenal 4-0 up on aggregate.

Vinicius Junior pulled one back for Real Madrid immediately before Gabriel Martinelli capped off a famous victory over the reigning Champions League holders.

But earlier on, Saka saw his Panenka penalty easily saved.

Referee Francois Letexier pointed to the spot after a VAR review for Raul Asencio’s pull on Mikel Merino.

Martin Odegaard picked up the ball and looked to be preparing to take the penalty.

But Saka was lurking inside the D, ready to take the ball off him and shoot.

As he waited, though, his England team-mate Bellingham, 21, whispered something in Saka’s ear and put his hand on his shoulder.

The Arsenal hero seemingly gave no reaction to the Real Madrid midfielder, who appeared to carry on chirping away with the mind games.

And fans on social media were far from impressed with Bellingham’s antics – as others gave their own hilarious suggestions for what he might have said to Saka.

One said: “He maybe needs to concentrate on his own game for a bit. Barely saw him tonight.”

Another wrote: “Boy, he’s gone down in my estimation. Really not all that.”

A third added: “‘I wish I could turn up for the big games . How do you do it?'”

A fourth commented: “He said, ‘Please let me win.'”

A fifth typed: “‘Give us a chance please.'”

And a final user replied: “‘Can you let me know how I can escape from Declan’s pocket, Bukayo?’”

Whatever Bellingham did say, though, may well have got inside Saka’s head as he produced the nightmare spot-kick.

Bellingham also got into a tussle with another Three Lions pal, Declan Rice, as his frustrations threatened to boil over on a miserable night for Los Blancos.

Arsenal ratings v Real Madrid

ARSENAL'S heroes dumped the Kings of Europe out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion.

The Gunners went to the Bernabeu with a 3-0 lead after the first leg at the Emirates.

Bukayo Saka missed an early penalty, but made amends by chipping over Courtois to make it 4-0 on aggregate on 65 minutes.

Two minutes later, Vinicius Junior pounced on a dawdling William Saliba to fire into an empty net and give Real a glimmer of hope.

But not only did Arsenal hold on, Gabriel Martinelli scored on the counter-attack in injury time to round off a famous 5-1 aggregate win over the reigning champions.

As for Saka, who was cheered on by girlfriend Tolami Benson, he was confronted by injured Dani Carvajal in a furious half-time bust-up.

But the winger and his Arsenal team-mates enjoyed the last laugh by recording the famous 5-1 aggregate victory to set up the semi-final with PSG.

They will be without Thomas Partey for the first leg, however.

The Ghana international knew a yellow card would see him suspended – but needlessly picked up a booking for getting into a row with Antonio Rudiger.
