Huge chart-topping singer announces major show in Scotland this summer

CHART sensation Chappell Roan has announced a major show in Scotland this summer.

The in-demand Hot To Go singer has been praised by megastars including Lady Gaga and Elton John, and was recognised as one of 2024’s breakthrough acts thanks to her meteoric rise to fame.

She has experienced meteoric success over the last 12 months[/caption]

She spent 23 weeks in the UK Singles Chart Top Ten, reached No. 1 with her 2023 debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and performed a sell-out European tour last year.

Now, the 27-year-old Grammy Award winner for Best New Artist is set to return to Scotland in August for a special performance as part of the Edinburgh Summer Sessions.

Chappell — whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz — will play the Royal Highland Showgrounds on Tuesday, 26 August.

Gigs in Scotland has described her performances as “larger-than-life,” noting her headline shows sell out in mere hours after building an “impassioned community of listeners” who “scream along to her gutsy anthems.”

Pre-sale tickets will be available from 9am on Thursday, with standard tickets on sale from 9am on Friday.

Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21, with a minimum age restriction of 12 years old.

While appearing at Coachella Festival in California last April, Chappell famously declared: “I’m your favourite artist’s favourite artist,” and she wasn’t joking.

Elton John has praised her talent, saying, “It’s wonderful to see true talent being recognised,” while Sabrina Carpenter remarked, “I’ve been just as obsessed with her as everyone has.”

Lady Gaga revealed she is a “huge” fan, Ariana Grande expressed her love for Chappell, and Adele interrupted her Munich residency to tell the crowd: “She is spectacular, and it turns out she’s not just got one song.

“She’s got, like, seven f***ing brilliant songs.

“I think she’s absolutely amazing.

“I’m very excited for her, but my friend also said she’s a bit scared.

“So, do what you gotta do, baby girl, but you’re phenomenal.”

Chappell released her debut album in September 2023, though it initially failed to crack the Top 100 in the UK.

In April 2023, she had 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, but that figure has soared to 47 million in just a few short months.

And in February 2025 at the 67th Grammy Awards, the hitmaker won her first Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

And last month she knocked herself off the Official Chart No 1 with her new single The Giver, pushing Pink Pony Club down to three.

Our Bonnie’s ‘broken arm’ turned out to be killer cancer – now she has less than a year to live, she’s only 5

FIVE-year-old Bonnie Spence has been given less than a year to live after doctors mistook her deadly cancer as a ‘broken arm’.

“Not in our wildest nightmares would we have thought we’d be in this position,” her dad Iain, 41, said.

The little girl from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was left in excruciating pain because of the lump on her arm.

Initially, her mum Zoe, 30, thought might have been a break.

Doctors in the area agreed, putting the lump down to a possible sprain, and sent the tot home with her arm in a sling.

However, Bonnie’s arm kept on swelling – leaving her in even more agony.

Two months later, after several hospital appointments in Lancashire, mum Zoe decided to drive her daughter three-and-a-half hours to Newcastle, near her father’s home.

“Bonnie was rolling around in pain,” Iain said.

They decided to take her to the Royal Victoria Hospital, where Iain said doctors took one look at her and knew she had a tumour.

Bonnie was diagnosed with stage four rhabdoid sarcoma in February, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.

According to doctors, the pressure on Bonnie’s arm had become so bad that it led to compartment syndrome, an increase in pressure inside a muscle, which restricts blood flow and causes pain.

Just five days after her diagnosis, her parents had to make the difficult decision to allow doctors to amputate the youngster’s left arm.

Now doctors predict the five-year-old has less than a year to live, with the cancer having spread to her lungs.

Zoe said: “In the space of nine weeks, it went from a suspected broken arm to now terminal cancer with only a year given.

“This news absolutely shattered my whole world.

“She’s on chemotherapy to prolong her life, but we have been told the chemotherapy will stop working around the 28-week mark, and we will have no other options left.”

The mum of five now faces expensive three-and-a-half hour long trips to see her daughter, who remains with her father in Newcastle.

On top of this, HGV driver dad Iain and NHS midwife stepmum Caroline face difficulties paying their bills as they try to stay with the tot during her final months.

Iain is only on £118.75 per week statutory sick pay and Caroline’s occupational sick pay runs out in October, meaning they could face the difficult decision to return to work while Bonnie is still at home.

Iain said: “It’s not the most ideal situation with her mother being over there – she’s never been away from her mum.

“Everyone understands that unfortunately this is the best way to do it.

“Her mum’s trying to get over as much as she can, and we’re trying to do the best as we can for her as well.”

‘Just a lump on the arm’

Stepmum Caroline, 32, said: “She’s having to pay for caravan parks and Airbnbs to stay in, and because of Bonnie’s needs they need to be adapted that can fit the wheelchair with one arm and things like that.

“That increases the cost of Airbnbs that are available to her.”

Iain added that he hopes Bonnie’s case raises awareness of rhabdoid sarcoma.

He said: “It just presented as a lump on the arm.”

Bonnie’s dad has launched a GoFundMe to cover his living costs and expenses.

Meanwhile, her mum, Zoe has also launched a GoFundMe for travel and days out.

Collectively, the fundraisers have raised over £25,000 at the time of writing.

What is rhabdoid sarcoma?

Rhabdoid sarcoma, also known as malignant rhabdoid tumour (MRT), is an extremely rare and aggressive type of cancer.

It most often starts in the kidneys but can also form in soft tissues anywhere in the body, including the brain, where it’s called an atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumour (ATRT).

It’s caused by changes in a specific gene that usually helps control cell growth.

Who gets it?
Rhabdoid tumours mainly affect very young children, usually under the age of five.

In rare cases, it can also occur in older children and adults, but this is uncommon. It’s slightly more common in boys than girls.

Symptoms

Symptoms vary depending on where the tumour is located. In the kidneys, signs may include blood in the urine, a swollen tummy, or a lump that can be felt.

If the tumour is in the brain, it may cause vomiting, headaches, changes in behaviour, or problems with balance and coordination.

In other soft tissue areas, it might appear as a fast-growing lump, sometimes painful.

Because rhabdoid tumours grow quickly, symptoms often develop rapidly and may worsen over days or weeks.

UK facts

Rhabdoid sarcoma is very rare, with only a small number of cases diagnosed in the UK each year.

It accounts for a tiny fraction of childhood cancers but is one of the most aggressive.

Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial, though outcomes can still be challenging due to how fast the cancer can spread.

Research into more effective treatments is ongoing, and children with this diagnosis are usually treated at specialist cancer centres.

FORMER Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis is mounting a rescue for some of the Post Offices’ biggest branches.

The Post Office is this morning announcing a major change to its remaining 108 owned branches in an effort to save them from closure.

The 108 branches are currently losing the Post Office £40million a year

The company will switch the big city branches, sometimes called “Crown Post Offices” to a franchise model and hopes to strike a deal with new owners by the end of September.

In November fears were sparked that the Post Office couldo close its loss-making branches in a move that would cut hundreds of jobs.

The 108 branches are currently losing the Post Office £40million a year, despite only accounting for 1% of the business, the firm said yesterday.

However, the Post Office said that the franchise plan will mean towns will “that currently have a Directly Managed Branch in their area will continue to be able to access Post Office services either at, or near to, the same location.”

Franchising is a business model where a company (the franchisor) grants permission to an individual or group (the franchisee) to operate a business using its brand, products, and processes in exchange for a fee.

The Post Office was not guaranteeing that all branches will stay open as they are currently but it is understood that there has been strong interest.

It is understood that there have been 4,000 applications to take over the 108 branches from 500 different groups of bidders, including existing Post Office franchise owners.

Teso is in the running to take over some of the larger branches, but not all of them.

Stationery retailer Ryman, owned by entrepreneur Theo Paphitis, is also understood to be interested in acquiring some of the Post Office branches.

Ryman already offices Post Office services in six of its 237 branches. Mr Paphitis did not respond to a request for comment.

Nigel Railton, Post Office chairman, said that the £40 million of savings will be funnelled into increasing postmasters’ pay by 10 per cent as promised last November.

The Post Office is still negotiating with the government on funding for this year and is understood to have secured the majority of its funding.

Mr Railton said: “Moving to a fully franchised network is one part of enabling the Post Office to deliver a ‘New Deal for Postmasters’, helping to create a long-term, sustainable future for the Post Office.”

Post Office will work with franchise partners with a clear track record of successfully running Post Office services or similar customer-focused retail to ensure communities in these 108 locations will continue to receive a high quality of service once their Directly Managed branch is franchised.

Further details on proposals will be shared with local communities and stakeholders for individual branches in the coming weeks.

‘Hawaii of Europe’ to be even easier to get to with four new flights from the UK this summer

DUBBED the ‘Hawaii of Europe’, the beautiful island of Madeira has never been easier to get to.

With black sand beaches, time-capsule villages and unique swimming spots, Madeira should be the holiday destination on everyone’s lips – and there are even more flight routes from the UK this summer.

Madeira is the main island of the Madeira archipelago which includes Porto Santo and the Desertas.

Madeira has been called the ‘Hawaii of Europe‘ because of its volcanic landscapes, natural beauty, and subtropical climate – which all draw parallels to the Hawaiian Islands.

With a flight time of just under four hours, Madeira is one of the best places for Brits to enjoy a summer break.

The even better news is that since last year, there has been a 12 per cent increase in flights from the UK.

The newly released flight schedule shows that weekly flights for the summer period will rise from 349 in 2024 to 390 in 2025.

Jet2 has introduced a weekly flight from Bournemouth commencing in May.

The flight will leave every Thursday and will be a 3-hour 40-minute connection between Bournemouth and Funchal.

From Edinburgh, Ryanair will operate twice-weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays.

At Luton, both easyJet and Jet2 are expanding their services to Madeira. Jet2 already offer a weekly Monday flight to Madeira which will continue throughout the year.

easyJet will launch two additional services from June, with departures on Mondays and Fridays. The flight time from Luton to Funchal is also four hours.

Funchal is the capital of Madeira[/caption]

The capital of Madeira, Funchal, is on the south coast of the island and has plenty to offer.

There’s so much to see on the island, including a village in Santana that looks like it’s been frozen in time.

The Santana Houses, locally known as “Casas de Colmo” are small and triangular with distinctive thatched roofs and are often painted in vibrant red, white and blue.

These were built by early Portuguese settlers in the 16th century. Found on the northern coast, the houses have been preserved as an open-air museum.

The island is the perfect place for any keen hikers with over 20 official trails.

There’s also The Risco Waterfall that is found in Rabaçal, Paul da Serra, it’s considered one of the tallest and most impressive waterfalls in Madeira.

For anyone looking for the best views, head to Cabo Girão where there’s a clifftop viewpoint and glass-floored skywalk.

When it comes to beaches, you’re spoiled for choice in Madeira.

Seixal Beach and Ribeira Brava beach are particularly renowned for their unique black volcanic sand and calm waters.

As for the weather, the best time to visit Madeira is between June and October as temperatures reach highs of 20C.

Plus, what Sun Travel thought of Madeira when we visited Funchal.

And the Portuguese seaside resort named one of the ‘best villages to visit’.

Our Top Five Things To Do In Madeira

1) Hike in the Laurel Forest

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, the Laurel Forest (or Laurissilva Forest as it is also known) is a must-do.

The subtropical forest, located on the northwest side of the island, is perfect for hiking, biking, and climbing.

2) Brave a toboggan run

Dating back to the early 19th century, toboggan rides have become the basis of any tourists’ Madeira to-do list.

Initially used by residents of the upper village of Monte as a quick way to travel down to the city of Funchal, toboggan rides have become a much-loved tourist attraction.

3) Stroll the sleepy streets of Funchal

After flying down a slope on a toboggan, you may want a laid-back day in Funchal.

The capital city of Madeira, Funchal sits on a slope that faces the Atlantic Ocean, offering amazing views.

4) Explore the explosive tastes of Madeira’s food and wine scene

If you have not heard of the island of Madeira, you have probably heard of Madeira’s wine, which can be found in almost any UK supermarket.

It is no wonder then that food and wine-tasting tours are so popular on the Portuguese island.

5) Get jaw-dropping photos from the Funchal Cable Car

While not for those afraid of heights, Funchal’s cable cars boast some of the best sights of the city.

Trawling from Funchal to Monte and back in only 15 minutes, the cable cars are the perfect way to snap pictures of the orange-roofed capital and the hills surrounding it.

Savage Frank Warren blasts ‘AMATEUR’ Ben Shalom and Boxxer over Ben Whittaker vs Liam Cameron contract row

FRANK WARREN has blasted rival promoter Ben Shalom as an “amateur” amid a contract dispute between Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron.

The pair had a controversial draw last October in Saudi Arabia when they went over the top rope – leaving Whittaker unable to continue.

Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron rematch on April 20[/caption]

But they have since signed to rematch on April 20 in Birmingham – but under differing terms.

Cameron said on talkSPORT that his contract is for a 12-round bout while Whittaker’s was for ten rounds.

And Cameron is “not budging” over the row with his promoter Warren providing BoxNation with an update.

He said: “Boxxer have sent two [different] contracts out to two fighters.

“To Liam, they sent him a contract for terms that were agreed for a 12-round fight, and that is reflected in the contract, and that is signed by all parties, including Boxxer.

“I understand Ben Whittaker was sent a contract for ten rounds. Our position is that we have signed a contract for 12 rounds, and Ben Whittaker is contracted for ten rounds.

“The respective managers have negotiated on behalf of their fighters what they feel is best for their fighter, and for some reason, Boxxer have sent two different contracts that don’t reflect what each of them should be getting.

“As far as we are concerned, it should be a 12-round fight; that is what we have signed for.”

Asked whether they would accept financial compensation to make the fight a ten-rounder, Warren replied: “Well, if they do and Liam is happy for that, then they can go ahead and do it.

“For me, I think they should stick to 12 rounds… I’ve never heard of this before. This is like amateur night out.

“Sometimes you get lawyers that draft the contract and in the drafting they might make a cock up but in boxing, the amount of rounds in a fight is very crucial and there was no doubt it was negotiated for a 12 round fight.

“And if it wasn’t, do Boxxer, Shalom, whoever signed it, are they signing contracts without reading what they are sending out?”

SunSport has reached out to Boxxer for comment.

It comes after Cameron said on radio: “There is a mess about with the contracts that nobody is letting me speak about, so I’m going to try on here.

“We have signed for a 12-round fight, and they are trying to push it for a ten-rounder, doing everything that they can, and I’m not budging.

“I’m having a 12-round fight. I tried to do it on Gloves Are Off, and they wouldn’t let me speak about it.

“And on Sky Sports, they didn’t air my interview. This is the problem we are having. I signed a 12-round contract fight.

“When I was signing the contract, I thought ‘He couldn’t barely get through five rounds, this is weird’.

“So a couple of weeks went by, and they tried to send another contract for a ten-rounder.

“That shows the confidence levels, I’m ready for 15 rounds… It is signed for 12 rounds. There has been a mistake there.

“They thought they sent me a ten-round contract, but really it is a 12-rounder. He [Warren] is saying that we are not budging no matter what.”

A spokesperson for BOXXER, Whittaker’s promoter, said after: “The situation is being resolved and we look forward to one of the most eagerly anticipated rematches in recent history live from the bp pulse arena in Birmingham on Easter Sunday.”
