The hype train has officially left the station for Marvel Rivals Season 2, with NetEase Games kicking their marketing department into high gear. The upcoming Hellfire Gala season promises a smorgasbord of fresh content that has fans counting down the days until April 11.
Beyond Emma Frost’s arrival, the Krakoa-themed map, and enough cosmetics to make your wallet weep, one aspect getting a serious overhaul is the team-up system.

NetEase is making good on their promise of “dynamic” team-ups—adding fresh synergies while showing others the door.
All new team-up abilities in Marvel Rivals

As revealed in the Dev Vision Vol. 05 video, where Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyon broke down the changes, Season 2 introduces three powerful new hero synergies that might just reshape the meta.
The most intriguing addition is Mental Projection (Emma Frost – Psylocke/Magneto), giving Emma a hefty 100 health boost as the anchor while granting her mutant companions some serious firepower. Psylocke receives Soul Resurgence while Magneto gets Magnetic Resonance—both creating projections that attack alongside them. Think Loki’s clones but with a telepathic twist.

Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch finally get their mystical partnership through Arcane Order. When paired with the Sorcerer Supreme, Wanda unlocks Mystic Burst, transforming her right-click into a rapid-fire, long-range projectile that doesn’t drain energy. Strange himself gets tankier with a 100 health boost as the anchor.

The most anticipated (and potentially broken) team-up has to be Stars Aligned (Captain America – Winter Soldier). Cap gains 100 extra health and a 5% damage boost as the anchor, while Bucky gains the Stellar Impact ability, which allows him to pounce forward with a shockwave pulse.
What makes this truly game-changing is the second part: if Cap is in the team, Winter Soldier can now leap toward ANY teammate within medium range and slam his metal arm into the ground for an AoE attack. Essentially, Bucky’s getting The Thing’s mobility but with damage attached. Winter Soldier mains are already celebrating, and Diamond+ ranked matches might never be the same.
Team-up abilities removed from Marvel Rivals
While some heroes are getting cozy new partnerships in Marvel Rivals, others are watching their synergies crumble. Two team-ups are getting completely axed: Metallic Chaos (Scarlet Witch – Magneto) and Voltaic Union (Thor – Captain America/Storm).
The father-daughter duo of Magneto and Scarlet Witch losing their connection feels particularly harsh, though it makes sense with their new team-ups with Emma Frost and Doctor Strange, respectively.

Several other team-ups are getting surgical adjustments rather than complete removal:
- Winter Soldier loses Infinite Grit from Ammo Overload.
- Namor no longer gets Frozen Spawn from Chilling Charisma.
- Psylocke loses Psionic Disc from Dimensional Shortcut.
- Doctor Strange gets replaced by Namor in the Gamma Charge team-up.

These changes represent the most substantial team-up overhaul since launch, proving NetEase isn’t afraid to shake things up. The Season 2 patch drops April 11 at 5am ET—which team-up are you most excited to try? Drop your thoughts below!
